Walking the trails in Manu can be a little hard work at times. Afternoons can be quiet with little activity but every now and then you're rewarded with a little good fortune. This handsome Long-tailed Potoo is a good example as we were strolling back from a good morning birding the trails when we disturbed it from its daytime roost. The potoo flew a few metres and perched nearby in full view where it remained for the rest of the day, allowing other birding groups staying at the lodge to see it. A real bonus indeed and my first Long-tailed Potoo for a few years (since the Amazonia Lodge bird became more elusive some time ago).
