PERU (Manu Sept 07): Striolated Puffbird & Common Piping-Guan.

Staying at Manu Wildlife Centre we made various excursions to ox-bow lakes, trails and the canopy tower there. Highlights (for me at least) included Crested Owl - a bird I rarely see in Manu, despite many attempts. A very busy session on the canopy tower saw passing bird flocks, macaws, parrots and typical canopy species such as this Striolated Puffbird depicted above.
A nice cruise around the ox-bow lakes produced a wide variety of species including Purus Jacamar and the Giant Otters that often frequent the lake. Walking the trails we picked up a lot of new birds such as Great and Paradise Jacamars. Back at the lodge we were greeted by this Common Piping-Guan at the cabins!
