MEXICO: Guadalajara to Colima.

Digiscoping opportunities have been few and far between so far here in Mexico. Not hat we haven't seen a lot of birds and seen them well, just that there's been so much to look at!
Our first morning started with a quick look at the grounds of the Hotel Tapatio (above). No sign of any Yellow-throated Warblers this year (see Jan '07 entry) but plenty of migrants nevertheless. Most were Audubon's Warblers but some nice views of Black-vented Orioles, Canyon Towhees, Violet-crowned and Broad-billed Hummingbirds and House Finches were had before breakfast. After breakfast we travelled south to Ciudad Guzman stopping for a Lesser Roadrunner but unfortunately the lakes en route were pretty dried up. After lunch we headed up to Nevado de Colima (Volcan Nieve) where we soon picked up some goodies like Mountain Pygmy-Owl, White-eared Hummingbird and Bushtit etc before returning to Guzman for dinner. Nice start.
