CUBA 2008: Cayo Coco.

The causeway to Cayo Coco.

Crested Caracara, near Cayo Coco March 2008.

Leaving La Belen we headed to the north coast and the popular holiday destination of Cayo Coco. Nearing the causeway the weather deteriorated and the rain started and set in for the rest of the afternoon!

Over the next few days we visited various sites on Cayo Coco, Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Paredon Grande in search of the local specialities. One afternoon was spent on the beaches of Cayo Coco where we found our only Piping Plovers (above) of the tour on the distant sandflats.

Short-billed Dowitchers, Willet and Sanderling were present on the beaches with Royal Terns offshore.
