My favourite place on Earth! Itatiaia is Brazil's oldest national park (having recently celebrated its 70th year) and a simply wonderful place to bird. The injection of Atlantic Forest birds at Itatiaia is second to no other single site as far as I am concerned and the "Wow Factor" (to quote one group member) is almost guaranteed.

Short-tailed Nighthawks feed over the canopy below the swimming pool area.

Tawny-browed Owl, Hotel do Ype, Itatiaia September 2008.
After dark
Tawny-browed Owls can be heard and seen in the hotel grounds too, their "wobble-board" song resonating throughout the property.
