If you can drag yourself away from the hotel there really is plenty to see on the roads and trails through the forests in Itatiaia too. We were plagued by bad weather on the last trip but still managed a respectable haul including
Black-capped Piprites,
Star-throated Antwrens, Black-billed Scythebill, Rufous Gnateater, Fork-tailed Pygmy-Tyrant, Yellow-browed and
White-spotted Woodpeckers, White-barred Piculets, Brassy-breasted Tanagers and
White-shouldered Fire-eyes.

Giuliano Bernardon shows Mac Cooper Grey-hooded Attila in Itatiaia.

One of the highlights of the trip to Itatiaia had to be the cracking male
Cryptic Antthrush that came into tape just above the Hotel Donati. A
Pin-tailed Manakin was a new Itatiaia bird for me there too.

Blue Manakin (male), Itatiaia NP September 2008.
Seeding bamboo in the park meant that it was simply infested with Uniform Finches this year and we even found some nests (above). We also saw a few Sooty Grassquits, Buffy-fronted and Temminck's Seedeaters too.

Er ........ another moth.
