Swallow-tailed Cotinga at the nest, Intervales November 2008.
Two very special cotingas -
Bare-throated Bellbird and
Swallow-tailed Cotinga are best seen at Intervales. We viewed a nest of the latter at a safe distance on our first morning but were horrified at the sight of a chick dangling from the nest at lunchtime. The chick was still alive unfortunately and heaven knows why it decided to venture away from the confines of the nest.
