Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks.

Female Masked Duck - a REGUA speciality.

White-eared Puffbird.

Tropical Screech-Owl.

Last trip of the year to Brazil started well at REGUA with an evening walk into the wet grasslands to see Giant Snipe (above). The dusk excursion also produced Pauraques, a nice male Scissor-tailed Nightjar (complete with tail-streamers) and we heard a young Striped Owl too. During our time at REGUA we recorded some quality Atlantic Rainforest species including Shrike-like Cotinga (a superb male on the "Red Trail"), White-necked Hawks, Pin-tailed Manakin, Slaty Bristlefront, Star-throated Antwrens, Crescent-chested Puffbird, Southern Antpipit and Black-cheeked Gnateater. A trip to higher elevations produced White-eared Puffbird in the open country and a couple of Frilled Coquettes in the forest. On our final morning we walked the 4x4 track in search of Eastern Striped Manakin and after a bit of a battle we had superb views. Great place, great birds, great food and can't wait to get back there ......
