LANCS: Martin Mere WWT.

I've not had any time for birding so far this week so a run out to Martin Mere "on business" this afternoon was very welcome indeed. I left a little bit of time for birding after chatting with Andy Bunting at the In Focus shop for a while. My Hen Harrier timing was spot on as usual and I failed to see the ring-tail that had been reported earlier today, but I did see several Common Buzzards and a couple of Peregrines at Miller's Bridge. Plenty of Whoopers out on the Mere of course but few geese. In fact I only saw a few Pink-feet on the reserve and 33 more from Curlew Lane on the way home. The roads were treacherous today too with all the black ice.

I checked the University in Preston on my way to the Mere but didn't see any Waxwings (I don't think they were reported yesterday either). Some have been seen at Blockbusters on the ring road today though so they are still about. Glossy Ibis is down at Marshside now apparently with the Green-winged Teal. Have to check the north Ribble marshes once the thaw starts.
