Snatching bits of birding at the moment. Quick lunchtime dash down to the Inner Ribble produced nothing of note at Newton Marsh, in fact the numbers were predictably down after the freeze. Still 300+ Wigeon around the Entrance Pool, 3 Shoveler, 20 Mallard and 40+ Teal and 250+ Black-tailed Godwits out on the fields with the Lapwings, Redshanks and 50+ Golden Plovers.
Managed to get up to Bradshaw Lane near Pilling just in time for the Short-eared Owls this evening. There were 3 of these fantastic birds over the rough grassland with 2 Barn Owls for good measure. As usual the fields were full of birds with Pink-feet (3000+) flying out to roost on Pilling Marsh, 50+ Fieldfares, 30+ Corn Buntings, 15+ Yellowhammers and 20+ Tree Sparrows seen. Passing Sparrowhawks and Kestrels were keeping these birds busy too.
Waxwings still about in Preston apparently.
