No visit to the western Amazon is complete without a visit to a "Parrot-lick". Early in the day parrots and macaws visit a traditional area where the can injest minerals in the mud banks along the river edge or where water trickles down a cliff. Apparently the minerals contain properties that neutralise toxins digested in the everyday diet of parrots.
