Time for a quick visit to the recent past. Bombuscaro in S. Ecuador provided us with plenty of birds as we based ourselves at the quaint Copalinga Lodge where White-breasted Parakeets could be seen from my bedroom window.

One of my last N. Ecuador postings mentioned that we'd seen
Lanceolated Monklet but that it had stayed out of digiscoping range. Well, this individual at the entrance to Bombuscaro was much more confiding. Perched in the trees at head-height in the car park, this tiny puffbird posed for several minutes singing every now and then.
Deeper in the forest we picked out
Blue-rumped Manakin,
Striped Manakin and the rare
Black-streaked Puffbird.

But the bird we were after was the threatened
Coppery-chested Jacamar. This female was located on one of the higher trails above the nursery not far from the Black-streaked Puffbird territory. Good birding at a fine site.
