PERU 2009: So far so good.

Male Andean Cock-of-the-Rock near San Pedro, Manu Road, October 2009.

Blogging from Puerto Maldonado in the Amazon at the moment. Just finished the Manu Road cloud forests and the lowland rainforests of Manu Wildlife Centre with Machu Picchu and the coast near Lima still to do. Some fantastic birding already under the belt and still plenty more to come. The header photo shows a few of the 50+ Red-and-Green Macaws at the Blanquillo Macaw Lick a couple of days ago. What a spectacle - hundreds of Blue-headed Parrots, 50+ Orange-cheeked Parrots, Mealy and Yellow-crowned Parrots: Amazonian equivalent of Caerlaverock!!!!
Is Manu even better than the Ribble Estuary?????

Slate-coloured Hawk, Manu Wildlife Centre, Peru October 2009.

More soon on how my luggage made its way along the Manu Road before I did; how I unashamedly kidnapped another group's driver and maybe a first for Manu.

Great stuff Colin and you took the time to view and comment on Birds2blog all the way from Peru......hows that for dedication.

I've 'nicked' your Slate-coloured Hawk with another reminder for you to tell me if that's out of order.

Enjoy Peru and its birds.

Pete.

Hi JR, Sue and Pete,

Thanks for calling by. Looks like I was right about your Long-billed Dowitcher Pete. Just checked Bill Aspin's Blog and there it was on the South Ribble Marshes! But just as JR and Sue said - Peru: fantastic place to bird and it's been incredibly good this year. Who knows, the LBD may stick around?
No probs with the pics Pete - take any that take your fancy.
Colin (in Cusco now).
