PERU: Marvellous Hummers!

No birding for me again today. November is living up to its reputation (in my book, anyway) as a dreary month weather wise. Still, it does mean I get some work done I suppose.
So it's a good excuse to show this male Wire-crested Thorntail taken last month at Cock-of-the-Rock Lodge on the Manu Road in Peru. Peru is blessed with some amazing hummingbirds, but perhaps the most celebrated one, the Marvellous Spatuletail can only be seen in the Utcubamba Valley of the north. Thanks to Duncan Ritchie who sent me this link to an unbelievable piece of film of displaying male Marvellous Spatuletail. Undoubtedly one of the most incredible pieces of footage I've seen about birds. Don't miss it!
By chance we were in the spot where this film was made last year (and saw the Spatuletail). See this post from "Ribble to Amazon".
