Highlights from birding around the Colvend Coast on the Scottish Solway at the end of February included large numbers of wild geese and waders (including 125 Grey Plovers at Southerness Point) but perhaps the most noteworthy counts were of seaduck off Castle Point, Rockcliffe. Although there were fewer Common Scoters inshore than usual (700+) the flock did include a Velvet Scoter, 2 Long-tailed Ducks and 1173 Greater Scaup.

Hi Colin

We stayed at Mersehead in early February. The geese were superb. Did you see the barn owl? Sadly we didn’t spot the blue winged teal at Threave (again!)
