|Ptarmigan at Bealach na Ba near Applecross, Highland 9 June 2013.|
I've seen a few Ptarmigan over the years and apart from a few birds 'scoped distantly from the road in winter, seeing them has always involved a bit of a climb and some scrambling around. So when I heard about 'easy' Ptarmigans near Applecross (I think Angie found out about them on the net) we had to have a go.

The viewpoint marked on the map NG 774 427 (Landranger 24) has a car park. Instructions said simply park and walk up towards the antennae. Couldn't be that simple? Well it was and within five minutes of leaving the car we saw the Ptarmigan (just visible at the side of the track in the photo above).
Great place. Just make sure you pick a good day - it's not always sunny up there, even in June .....
|Worth going over the pass and down to Applecross too.|
